After 48-Day Coma, Man Shocks Family & Hospital Staff With First Words: "I Want Bubble Tea."

Sunnybank, QUEENSLAND—A man has woken up from a 48-day coma and shocked his family and hospital staff by immediately asking for Bubble Tea.

Dong Lai-Cha, 43, fell into a coma back in October after being caught in a 6-car accident in the Market Square carpark in Brisbane Southside suburb Sunnybank.

Mr Dong, who is one of many Asians in Brisbane who drive without a valid license, was rushed to the emergency room at the nearby QE2 Hospital in Macgregor.

Following admission, he was assessed and treated for traumatic brain injury - but fell into coma after surgery.

With his observations stable, after a grueling 48 days, Mr Dong finally woke up and shocked everyone in the room with his first words: "I want Bubble Tea."

When his family and hospital staff just stared on in disbelief, the patient spoke again: "Matcha with pearls, no ice, half sugar."

Mr Dong has made a full recovery and will be returning to the roads soon, News.con.au warns.
